playing in BEAMS of LIGHT {Ballet tie-up sandals and natural colors}

12:56 PM

Spring is the best time of year around here. The view, the clothes, the scents, the food (which, of course, I mean by ice cream). Lately I've been going for natural tones...no, we are not going to discuss the electric hot colors I wore in my pre-teens *hu-hu*.
I can't tell you HOW BADLY I wanted a pair of lace-up ballet flats. Unfortunately, I either didn't find a pair, didn't have the money to spend, or, didn't like the style of the ones I saw.

THEN.
Then, we all packed up and went to Old, Town, VA, for a day (it was beautiful...I saw a real-to-goodness steamship with those wheel thingies and it was yellow and white. We ordered a pizza at the Wholefoods there and it took an hour no kid and we hadn't eaten for 6 hours so I had a foot long piece. Wholefoods makes huge pizzas, alright, don't judge) on the way home I saw a cute pair, bought them on clearance for $18.00, and took 'em home. Easy-peasy.
Now to get used to the point.

Yesterday our youth group had a spaghetti dinner & silent auction fundraiser. I HAD KNOW IDEA WHAT I VOLUNTEERED FOR. The church's kitchen is pretty much equipped for feeding 3 bus loads of elephants. No kid, they have a pan so big I could sit in it. And their washing machine. I got rather acquainted with it. But let's start back a ways before the dinner began, us helpers were getting ready, and the head volunteer lady said "He's washing the dishes, who's drying?"

*silently thinking there's just some dishes at that precise moment that need drying*

*shrug* "I can".

So I dried dishes for the night. For at least 200 people. See, we didn't have enough plates for all of them, so we had to circulate the dishes and put them back out again. And quickly. And when they came out from the dishwasher (which was not your average machine) they were so hot that your mind was telling you DO NOT TOUCH...whereas you had to, because more dishes were coming, they needed plates, etc. Thank God I had people helping me constantly...could not have done that by myself. And when talking, constantly saying "WHAT?!" because the military-like dishwasher was so loud and the boiling pots of noodles and sauce had to, well, boil loudly.

*raises hand*
Still alive!!

I had to wear my hair up, of course, so I found a tutorial on a 'bouffant bun' and on my first try it came out adorable.
Then I got to the church, and found out I had to put a hat on.
I ended up having to take out my whole bun and wearing a baseball cap with a bill so long I could only see people under the height of 5'5.
Fortunately, I moved my ponytail even lower so I could look up.

Would you wear flowers in your hair?

Have you ever worked in an army-sized kitchen??

Christmas

A CHRISTMAS COSTUME PARTY + WHAT I WORE // THE STICKY BANDITS

7:22 PM

I HOSTED A CHRISTMAS COSTUME PARTY.

(okay, well...for the youth group, but still) It was so much fun, wish you all could have been there. I believe my earliest preparations for this extravaganza were in November...so yes, I've been quite excited for quite some weeks.

MY COSTUME....was a vintage wind up doll. You know that far-away wish to DRESS LIKE A JANE AUSTEN HEROINE at a ball??? Well, it came true.

It was my very first time wearing real heels...and I did a 'penguin shuffle'. Yes, I was about 5'9 with heels on.
It was also my very first time with penciled eyebrows. Boy, was that different. *Walks into the bathroom* *looks up at the mirror* *astonished face*.

MY HAIR....oh, Mom did a lovely job. I pinned curled ALL of it the night before, then Mom put it up in combs and clips, and just curled a few strands with a curling rod. I had a blouse buttoned up my neck, with a green ribbon tied, and a white bow directly across from my wind-up.

THE GINGERBREAD HOUSE. Haha..............that thing. Our icing bag burst where the zip lock was, and literally just went *GLOP* onto the table (Friends staring at me while I have no idea that I just lost 1/5th or more of the bag). So, we tried icing stuff out of the wasted icing with our hands, thus the title for our team, from that classic movie sequel, Home Alone 2.

(this isn't even our first house. don't ask)

THE PARTY, it turned out to be pretty epical (yes I just created a new word. Ye may use it if you wish). There was Winnie the Pooh, Dolls, Woody from Toy Story (yes Sarah) Mr. Monoply...etc. Overall, I believe all the planning, glue-gunning, stapling, holly leaf-cuts, pin-curling, and anxious waiting was worth it.

After all, isn't Christmas really the most wonderful time of the year?

Jesus=joy

Have you ever (tried) built a gingerbread house?
What toy would you have been?

Let the Sand be my Shoes

1:25 PM

Declares the LORD 'Do you not tremble in My presence? For I have placed the sand as a boundary for the sea, An eternal decree, so it cannot cross over it. Though the waves toss, yet they cannot prevail; Though they roar, yet they cannot cross over it.
part of Jeremiah 5:22

Dress: Local Flea Market: $0.50
Shoes: bay side sand
Jewelry: wind from the coast and after midday sun

If summer days at the bay could be bottled and sold they would make a fortune. They are splendidly golden; each day is different and beautiful. If it's calm and placid, or roaring and wild, so unique from one another with such untamed beauty.

What are your summer golden days?
Have you ever seen a Herring?
Do you own a 50 cent dress?

3 Ways to Wear one Thrifted Dress ~White Butterfly~

7:38 PM

Why, everyone, I've finally done a fashion post. Can you believe it? I'll say this celebrates 30 followers (can you believe that?). I must thank my photographer, my Mother, for the pictures. Today it was cool, around 60 degrees outside, so the leggings and short-sleeved jacket were essential. I was in a local Easter play called the 'Passion', and as I was playing an angel, needed to wear some type of sandals. On the play day me and my Mom picked up these white, barely worn Softspots for a $1 a shoe, not knowing the pair originally costs $70.

For behold, the winter is past; the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth, the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land.

Thank you all for reading. What are you wearing from the thrift store?

Why it is important to be Modest

4:09 PM

Why is it important to be modest? Why does it matter if we buy a low-necked shirt or not? We are, after all made in the image of God, and to be given respect from others and from ourselves, we go by a certain standard. I have noticed that the Juniors clothing section is not controlled by girls, but by boys. After all, why have we as girls the need to wear absurdly tiny shorts and strap-shirts? Do we need to prove something by barely wearing any clothing? No! Girls are pushed into fitting in and wearing what every other girl is wearing.

But WE can change this. We can start a change. Thee change, for more respect for Women and girls alike, by wearing something a little less revealing and helping our friends to follow our lead. These websites can help strengthen you and show you that you are not alone.
