Hello, Ocean

4:22 PM

Yesterday my family drove out to Bethany Beach, Delaware. Bethany has been our family's vacation spot for awhile, I even learned how to ride a bike there. It takes us about four hours to get there, but oh, is it worth the wait. I absolutely love the ocean. On our way to Delaware we have to go across the bay bridge, which at 4.3 miles long was the worlds longest continuous over-water steel structure (I think it is more towards five miles now).

After the bridge there is miles of farms-soy, corn, etc. Then finally past the "Welcome to Delaware!" sign and on to Bethany. The famous totem pole stands in the downtown entrance of Bethany Beach at 24" foot tall, I got out and snapped some pictures.

They have these flags there with GIANT pots of flowers hanging from them. the pots were so big  and beautiful.

When we were parked in a sandy on-the-sidewalk parking lot I remembered I had forgotten my bathing suite.......I know, I know. Since it's fall we got a pretty good deal on a bathing suite top and a pair of pink shorts for me to swim in. And then we hit the beach.

The water was gentler than usual, which made yesterday perfect for swimming. I had never really been out of the wave crash area, so going out to deeper waters was really fun. The whole family hopped in and it reminded me of the scene in the Croods where they see a body of water for the first time. I spent most my time in the water trying to learn how to swim, and I actually did for a couple of seconds. The water was cool, but not too cold and so beautifully ocean blue. Also might I mention extremely salty, as my eyes and throat know very well. Some Seagulls hung out with us for a while, one of them this little fellow.

After swimming we headed onto the boardwalk. Again, another plus of vacationing in September is that there is definitely not as many people on the boardwalk. Bethany Beach has an absolutely cute little town. It is very laid back and beachy, but it has it's own style about it. When you go there you can feel that it's family oriented, and this is one of Bethany's great values.

The little shop huts are pretty pricy, but when fall comes the prices drop. Even if you aren't buying anything it's always fun to look.

(This reminds me of the thing in Tangled)

All together it was a great one day trip. Have you ever been to Delaware? What's your favorite place to vacation?

Thanks for reading,

God bless,
