The Companionship of Friends and Thankfullness

1:02 PM

(images via google)

If I can ask of you one thing...let you listen for a moment.

To the blessings.

The life revolving around your every breath.

Your family.

Your siblings who love you (despite differences)

With all their heart.

Your parents who serve you with all their kindness.

As homeschoolers...and/or introverts, at times we may fall into the stereotype that being home schooled makes you 'socially inept'. And often enough we are shy, hence, too shy to take that first step into making friends. But we can make friends, and be friendly, just by praying for the right opportunities, friends, and overall bravery. We can have as many friends as God allows us to, and as we allow ourselves to step out of our comfort zone to make.

There are so many things we wish for. One of them being Anne Shirley's kindred spirit. A friend who, through all life, loves you and cares about you. Who laughs with you. Who partners with you through thick and thin, good and bad.

Sometimes we want something so badly we neglect to see what we have around us, and are blinded to the thing we want. The classic, friendly person is not always the best friend. I want to let you know a very important thing, one you may not have to learn from experience...you do not need friends.

Don't feel left out or despondent if you don't have any. We need God, and, if any other human, family. The 'need' for friends is a need for something that can be fleeting, and investing all your heart in one person, can be crucial. When we need friends we ignore the ones that desire our own friendship, and in hastiness push away the others. Valuing people's ( you may not know enough) opinion above your own is a downward slope.
After this...so many friends come along the path. They may not all be secret-givers, or trail-blazers, or even late-night-laugh-with-me friends, but they count, and brighten your life. Once you are satisfied, the possibilities are endless. You see so many friends and opportunities you never saw before...you may even meet the Diana to your Anne.
I want to inspire you that however many friends you have now, however many activities and outings, be thankful. And pray for everything else to come in time. These are just little (yet huge) lessons I've learned-and am still very much learning-that I wanted to share with you.

Do you have a friend from "the race that knows Joseph"?
Do you have family-friends?
Have you experienced this lesson?

Spring, Spring, Spring,

2:46 PM

Oh, the barnyard is busy in a regular tizzy,

And the obvious reason is because of the season

Ma Nature's lyrical, with her yearly miracle
Spring, Spring, Spring.

Every field wears a bonnet
With some spring daisies on it,
Even birds of a feather show their clothes off together.

Sun's gettin' shinery, to spotlight the finery,

Spring, spring, spring!

It was quite warm early on around here...and then, it got cool, and rain rain rain. Now it has warmed up, and we have begun gardening. I planted some of our budding potatoes, and guess what?

I'm growing potatoes! We've hoed, and dug, and planted, and prepared almost fully our mini farmette. I'm not doing corn this year (as my longer-time-followers may remember how that went) instead I want to plant one of my absolute favorites....watermelon. Oooh.

Are you gardening this year? Do you know what 1954 movie the lyrics above are from?

Sing the praises of the Lord, you his faithful people;

    praise his holy name.

For his anger lasts only a moment,
    but his favor lasts a lifetime;
weeping may stay for the night,
    but rejoicing comes in the morning.
~Psalm 30:4-5

(ooh. This verse!)

Away In the Country

2:02 PM

But ask the animals, and they will teach you

Or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you

 Or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you.

Which of all these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this?

In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.
~Job 12:7-10

Proverbs Three ~Wisdom~

3:05 PM

Blessed are those who find wisdom,
    those who gain understanding,
14 for she is more profitable than silver
    and yields better returns than gold.

15 She is more precious than rubies;
    nothing you desire can compare with her.
16 Long life is in her right hand;
    in her left hand are riches and honor.
17 Her ways are pleasant ways,
    and all her paths are peace.

18 She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her;
    those who hold her fast will be blessed.
19 By wisdom the Lord laid the earth’s foundations,
    by understanding he set the heavens in place;

20 by his knowledge the watery depths were divided,
    and the clouds let drop the dew.

Psalm 148: Praise the Lord from the Heavens

10:05 PM

Praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord from the heavens;
    praise him in the heights above.
Praise him, all his angels;
    praise him, all his heavenly hosts.
Praise him, sun and moon;
    praise him, all you shining stars.
Praise him, you highest heavens
    and you waters above the skies.

Let them praise the name of the Lord,
    for at his command they were created,
and he established them for ever and ever—
    he issued a decree that will never pass away.
Praise the Lord from the earth,
    you great sea creatures and all ocean depths,
lightning and hail, snow and clouds,
    stormy winds that do his bidding,
you mountains and all hills,
    fruit trees and all cedars,
10 wild animals and all cattle,

    small creatures and flying birds,
11 kings of the earth and all nations,
    you princes and all rulers on earth,
12 young men and women,
    old men and children.
13 Let them praise the name of the Lord,
    for his name alone is exalted;
    his splendor is above the earth and the heavens.
14 And he has raised up for his people a horn,
    the praise of all his faithful servants,
    of Israel, the people close to his heart.
Praise the Lord.
